Week 5 Blog Summary
Topic: "This house believes divorce is a social ill" Do you agree?
Agree
- Impact on the child
- May very likely create a negative impact on their psychological development
- Child become the “middleman” or messenger of the couple
- May think that they are “unwanted” when both parent do not care about the custody
- Child might tend to stray as they have a need to relieve the anger, sadness and denial in them
- Financial burden gets heavier for the parent who is taking care of the child
- After divorce, the support of the other spouse will be gone.
- Sending wrong impression to others of marriage
- Some might think that divorce will lead to divorce eventually
- Lesser and lesser people would want to get married
- Insecure and not confident of a marriage
Disagree
- Sense of freedom gained
- No need to perform duties that are expected from their roles.
- Gain back their “single” status
- Able to look for their new lifetime partner
- Couple will be more matured after divorce. Marriage is not one child's play and through their experience they would really think twice before getting into another.
- Couples no longer need to quarrel over differences or issues concerning their families
- Reduce tension or stress for both of them.
- Able to concentrate on other things such as work.
- More time for self
- No need to worry on their strained relationship
- More stable and peaceful homes
- Unhappiness resolved through divorce.
- Lesser family issues for family relation organizations to deal with
- Child is still able to grow up as one good citizen
- Even though children who come from single parent family have a high tendency of getting strayed but if the couple continues to give love and care to the child after divorce, the child is still able to grow up as a good citizen.
- Not obliged to stay on together
- No longer meaningful and fruitful for the marriage to go on when both parties have become indifferent from each other.
- No need to face each other unhappily for the rest of their life.
- Only after marriage, then the couple will be able to see each other “real” self and character. They might find that they are not suitable of each other, leading to quarrels and arguments. Hence divorce might be a good choice to end the torments
